Rahman's Chicken and Rice

Location: 45th and 3rd Ave
Price: $5.50
Container: Square (clear plastic)

I originally reviewed Rahman’s Kwik Meal on 47th and Park Ave a few months ago, and I LOVED IT.  I don’t like the idea of reviewing a chain twice, but I didn’t realize it was another Rahman’s until after I already ordered.  Oh well.  When the guy handed me my food without asking me if I wanted white sauce and hot sauce, I got a bit nervous.  But it didn’t matter.  The dish was just as good as the first Rahman’s I reviewed.

I will admit there were a couple of small differences.  For some reason, the food in this cart seemed a bit — for lack of a better word — stale.  It just didn’t seem as fresh as the other cart.  That’s not to say it was bad, or tasted wrong — I could just tell it wasn’t super fresh.  I eat lunch rather early (12pm) so if I went later it’s more than possibly the food would have tested fresher.  Additionally, the guy didn’t give me enough hot sauce — where the other cart was just a perfect amount.

Other than those issues, the dish was great.  Great chicken, great rice, and the white sauce is easily the best I’ve had.

chicken, rice, sauces are just as good as the first Rahman’s cart I reviewed!
food could have been fresher

XPL: 48th & Broadway

Chicken and RiceLocation: NW Corner of 48th & Broadway
Price: $5.00
Container: Rectangular (Styrofoam)

It’s kind of a stressful day at work today, so I needed some good lunch.  I didn’t want to go super far because it’d not lookin to nice outside, so I decided to go with XPL on 48th & Broadway as recommended (#6) in Street Meat Palooza 3.

Me: “Chicken over Rice, Please”
Guy: “Veggies?”
Me: “Sure”
Guy: “White Sauce & Hot Sauce?”
Me: “Yup”
Guy “Eggplant?”
Me: “Uhh… sure why not”
Guy “Green Sauce?”
Me: “Uhh… sure why not”

Too many questions!  But boy was I glad he asked them all.  Let me tell you… between all the different flavors in the dish — it was GOOD.  The dish consisted of chickpeas, regular peas, carrots, a nice eggplant mix, lettuce/tomato, pita bread, and a falafel!  Everything blended together perfectly to create a nice relaxing dish.  It was just so good.  The only two things that really stuck out in my mind were: 1) the rice was really flavorful.  excellent, and 2) hot sauce was not hot at all.  Didn’t seem like there was any in there.  I would have enjoyed the dish just a TAD bit more if it was spicer!

If you are near, you’d be doing yourself a disservice by not trying this cart.

Veggies + eggplant + chicken + rice + sauces
Hot sauce could be a tad bit spicer

Adham’s Halal Food: 35th and Broadway

Chicken and RiceLocation: 35th and Broadway

I love summer!  I read about this cart on Midtown Lunch’s Street Meat Palooza 2, and thought “it’s close enough, let me go try it!”  First, it was not as close as I thought for some reason.  Second, I decided to eat in Herald’s Square — and BOY WAS IT ENJOYABLE.  Anyway, on to the food.  After going back and looking at Midtown Lunch’s picture, I think that the cart they reviewed was different than what I reviewed, because the food definitely doesn’t look the same.  Either way, I really enjoyed this Chicken and Rice!

The chicken was broken up into nice small chunks which was served over orange rice.  The white sauce was mediocre and the hot sauce had a very nice flavor to it (not TOO spicy!).  Standard lettuce and tomato on the side.  Cooked into the chicken was some peppers, not sure what kind.  I have to say though that I really enjoyed the rice!  I think it was my favorite part of the dish.

Orange Rice was MMMMMMM!
Good portion size! I wasn’t stuffed but didn’t leave anything
White sauce was just OK.
